THE CROW’S
NEST--------------August 27,
2010
What a
beautiful morning to
walk!!! I know I write so
often about my morning walks
but I just seem to have the
need to share them with
everyone. It is still dark
at 6:15 am, but being a part
of a village starting the
day plus the smells of
harvest compensate for the
lack of morning light.
Humidity hung heavy in the
air this morning. Looking
west out on #9, clouds of
low mist seemed to be
dancing on the hills by Bud
and Lynette Langeruds farm
home. Jackson Hall passed
me in a yellow school bus.
He will drive a route until
he goes back to Concordia
next week. There is lots of
activity around town every
morning.
This
past Tuesday Sandy and
Frances Forbes of Dundee,
Scotland were here. Sandy
came to present a plaque
representing the coat of
arms of Dundee to the Dundee
Township. Approximately 20
people attended the
presentation at the Dundee
Township Hall (it previously
was a school house). A meal
was served at noon in the
Edinburg Community Center.
Everyone was invited to
attend. Bernice Flanagan
and Leah Skjerven planned
the occasion with the help
of June Ellingson and
Rosemarie Myrdal. The noon
meal along with the visiting
made for a great time.
A new
era in education has begun
with the combining of the
Edinburg and Valley school
systems. School started
yesterday with the high
school students coming to
Edinburg. The grade and
junior classes are split
between Hoople and Crystal.
Edinburg School held an open
house last Tuesday night.
Wow, every room and hallway
just sparkled with newness!
I really was impressed with
the new lab science room.
There are pictures
throughout the website of
the improvements made.
Grain
harvest is on the downward
side, but there are beans,
potatoes, beets and other
crops still to get off the
ground before winter.
We had
a group of bikers from
Grafton and Fordville in
town last night. They had
parked their customized
bikes on Main Street. There
were some really gorgeous
bikes to include a couple of
very nice Harleys.
A
couple of weeks ago Loretta
Monson went in for an
angiogram. She ended up
having stents inserted. She
was going to have a hip
replaced but has to wait 3
months for that. She says
she feels like a new person
after the stents were put
in. Now if she could just
get that hip done Loretta
could be “swinging” from the
rafters!
Our
sympathy goes to the family
of Alvina Nygard. Alvina
passed away this week. The
funeral is tomorrow at Grace
Free Lutheran Church. We
will talk later.
