THE CROW’S
NEST-----------December
25, 2008
A Merry Christmas to
everyone. Santa left many
wonderful gifts for everyone
at our house. How great it
is to spend time with family
and friends. We had the
shortest day of the year a
couple of days ago so now we
can start thinking about
summer and the long, long
evenings of daylight we will
have in June. We have had
an abundant snowfall in
Edinburg with some adverse
weather. I guess that is
what winter is all about in
this part of the world.
Excitement abounded in
Edinburg a few days ago. A
certain former principal and
the “brains” behind the
“Table of Knowledge” at
Cenex had a slight problem.
It seemed he backed his
vehicle out of the garage
into the street. His garage
door would not go down so he
decided to talk to his son,
who at the time, was out
cleaning snow off a driveway
across the street. They
walked inside the garage to
take a look. They came out
and the prime character of
this story realized his car
was no where in sight! He
went inside to make sure his
wife (who is organist at
Trinity Lutheran) had not
slipped out and taken the
vehicle. No, she answered
when he called. Prime
character looked around and
could not see his car----he
looked down towards Main
Street and thought he saw a
dark shadow of “something”.
He decided to take a closer
look at what was down
there. The closer he got
the more the thought
prevailed of “could this be
my RV down here?” Long
story short---it was!
Unbelievably, his car had
“traveled” almost 2 blocks
before running into a stop
sign by the Computer Shop on
Main Street. This is a
great story for the coffee
group at Cenex. On the
other side is a story about
sister Ruthie. She was at
her daughter Jodi’s home
outside Fargo last week when
she decided to drive to
Wal-Mart at 6 AM. She
backed out and then realized
she had forgotten
something. She got out of
her Yukon and IT
started to move. Ruth was
thrown to the ground and she
said all she saw were black
tires coming at her. She
did get out of the way in
time. My gosh, what a
scare!!!!! Ruthie, you do
not know how happy we all
are that everything turned
out OK. I know Jodi
reprimanded you---well, my
daughter Kris said she would
“ground me” for life!!!
Point being: Our generation
is being well served by our
sons and daughters.
A couple of “Crow’s Nests”
back I complained about the
state of the modern
toaster. My complaints did
not fall on deaf ears!!! I
received a 2 slice
Toastmaster toaster (circa
1950’s) in the mail from my
cousin Steve Johnson in
Devils Lake. He said he
bought it at a garage sale
for 25 cents. It is HEAVY
and has a long cord and
makes absolutely perfect
toast. This brought about a
request from Mike Spanier.
He was wondering if he could
complain that he really
wanted a ’64 2 door hard top
SS, yellow in color with a
black top would someone send
him one? I said it was
worth a try!!!!!!
One more thing is on my
mind tonight and it is
devastating to me! My
“BREAD BOWL” has cracks in
it. I have a stoneware bowl
that has been home to
approximately 30,000 loaves
of bread in the last 45
years (When my kids were
growing up I made 7 loaves
at least 3 times a
week---they hated homemade
bread!!!!) Last Wednesday
when I was making brown
bread I noticed a
crack-----that crack just
seemed to get bigger and
bigger. I know I need to
deal with the problem. In
fact, I told Beverley Hall
about it the other day and
she said she had experienced
the same thing and just had
to buy another bowl. I
think I will have to go on
EBay and look for what I am
losing.
I hope everyone had a
wonderful Christmas with
family. The “Monson” family
was all up at Borg Home in
Mountain, ND the other night
for their annual Christmas
Eve Service, We were there
to celebrate Christmas with
Orlando Gryde. They held a
wonderful Christmas
Celebration for everyone.
I suppose there were150
people there for the
service. It was a special
night for all the residents
of Borg.
Have a wonderful Christmas
and we will talk again later
