THE CROW’S
NEST---------------------July
16, 2007
Suzy Kartes told me she was
waiting for post-celebration
updates and that I had
better hurry and get them on
the website. Sorry Suzy,
vacation, old age and just
plain tiredness from all the
activities around Edinburg
did me in! I do apologize
to everyone for being SO
slow.
What a wonderful 125th
birthday party Edinburg
had! It was a terrific
celebration Friday through
Sunday. I suppose the only
complaint would be the
heat. Wow!! It was hot. I
understand about 550 people
were served at the school
banquet. Even with the warm
evening everyone raved about
the meal and the program.
It was so much fun to see
people we hadn’t seen in
years.
Saturday dawned bright and
early in our household.
Chuck was in charge of
“clean-up” so his crew was
downtown about 6 AM picking
up trash. I was on
flower-watering patrol so I
enlisted my kids to help
water the hanging baskets on
Main Street.
The parade was wonderful.
There were about 120 units
lined up by the Hall’s
Potato complex. I
understand the parade lasted
about 1 ½ hours. It was fun
to see all the smiling faces
along the parade route as I
drove by pulling Orlando
Gryde’s horse carriage which
was known as a “Doctor’s
Buggy”. Orlando rode with
me in his pickup and my 2
grand daughters rode in the
buggy. All 3 of them
enjoyed waving to the
crowd.
The Historical Pageant was
well attended and fun to be
a part of. Again, it was
hot, hot, hot in the school
gym but everyone survived.
It cooled down during the
evening for the street
dance. I didn’t get down to
the dance as we were having
fun at home with friends who
stopped by to visit.
Sunday morning was the same
drill----clean up and
water. Trinity’s 125th
Celebration was wonderful.
The church was overflowing
with friends and visitors.
Seven pastors were part of
the celebratory service. A
meal was served following
the service. This was a
special time for everyone.
REFLECTIONS OF THE
CELEBRATION: I think
everyone had a good time. I
hope those visiting saw and
felt how much pride we
residents have in our little
town. Edinburg is a
wonderful place to live. We
do have one big problem
though that I think the City
Council will have to address
immediately. We have a need
for mini street lights,
parking spaces and other
amenities for all the golf
cart drivers!!! What a fun
way to travel around town.
I don’t think I will let
Chuck take his cart back to
the golf course---unless we
could become a 2-cart
couple! Sister Ruthie
suggested the next time
there is a celebration let’s
make it a 4-day event---3
days for celebrating and 1
day for the local residents
to visit!!! How true, as I
know from personal
experience I did not see or
visit with those that I wish
I could have connected with.
Sunday afternoon we
unplugged all the laptops,
IPods, personal DVD players,
cell phones, GPS units and
all other electronic devices
and 14 of us headed to Gull
Lake near Brainerd, MN. We
had 4 cabins on the beach
with NO television and NO
wireless connection. It was
so much fun. We fished,
swam, tubed, skied, and just
enjoyed being together as a
family. Our grandkids want
to go back next year to the
same spot. We’ll see as it
is difficult to coordinate
everyone’s schedules. The
time spent relaxing was
wonderful. But it is back
to reality as Chuck picked
about 9 gallons of peas that
needed to be shelled. He
also picked green beans,
potatoes and that FIRST
cucumber. Heavenly----
Please bear with me as I
start to “clean up” the
website after the
celebration. There will be
references to the 125th
on the site for a while
until I can remove
everything. It will take
some time so please don’t
think I have forgotten about
them. Thanks for your
patience.
Have a great day and will
visit later. August the 2nd
is approaching fast so help
Mountain celebrate!
