John Denver had a big hit
quite a few years ago
entitled “Hey, It’s Good to
Be Back Home Again”. That
is exactly how I felt late
yesterday afternoon as we
“climbed” Peppermint Hill
and saw Edinburg. There is
no place like home. We
spent a little
less than a week at
Horseshoe Lake near Brainerd,
Minnesota. It was cold, but it
was so very relaxing just
reading, quilting and
exploring antique
shops----at least that is
what I did. Chuck needs to
be busy so he stained a deck
and made platforms for the
beach. We stay at our
niece, Connie and her
husband, John’s cabin. They
have a fairy-tale “Hansel
and Gretel” type cabin and
also a beautiful log cabin.
We always opt for the fairy
tale one. Anyway, it was a
great time to relax and
renew but even more fun to
return home.
Chuck pointed out a field
heading out just east of Fargo. I sort of made an ugly
sound and then quickly
mentioned to him that we
have not even had summer
yet----how dare that field
decide to head out!! I
visited with Larry Pewe at
breakfast this morning at
Norby’s Diner. He said he
saw canola fields in bloom
last week southwest of
here. My, each season does
seem to fly by in a wink of
an eye.
Residents seem to be in a
traveling mood. Pam
Sondeland along with her
daughters Jane and Janice
and spouses plus her
grand-daughter Julie and
husband landed in London
this morning at 6 AM. Pam
grew up in England. I know
they will have a wonderful
time. John and Carol
Bjornson just returned from
visiting in Colorado and
Dorothy, Jackson and Taylor
are home from Boise, Idaho.
Loretta and David Monson
along with our mom, Janice,
should be home this evening
from Reno, Nevada and Sacramento,
California. Jan Nygard and
Cathy Nordquist, along with
2 relatives of Cathy’s are
back from Europe. Jan said they went to
Germany, Austria, Hungary,
Slovakia and the Czech
border. What an adventure.
The Park River Bible Camp
sessions are in full swing
so many of our young people
are taking advantage of
spending a week out there.
I feel badly we missed John
and Eunice Evenson’s 50th
Anniversary party. I was
reading the pamphlet they
had. It was so interesting
to read about Eunice
directing the choir-- and I
sang in that choir! That
seems like years and years
ago- it was! Leslie
Jensen, Mavis Wylie, Linda
and Ann Ellen Gire, Thelma
Rike are some of us who sang
for Eunice. That was 45
years ago at least. John
and Eunice have been such an
asset to the community and I
know they will for the next
50 years also.
Don’t miss the Open House
Wedding Reception for
Marjean (Olson) and
Christopher Green next
Sunday, July 11th
from 2 – 5 PM. There
also will be an Open House
Wedding Reception for Ross
and Shera Brandvold
Saturday, July 24th
from 5:00 – 7:30 PM. Both
of these receptions will be
held at Trinity Lutheran
Church. We all share in the
happiness of these two young
couples and wish them the
very best.
Hope you all have a
wonderful and safe 4th
of July. Hopefully it will
warm up enough to barbeque
and make home-made ice
cream.
Thought I would pass this
tidbit on I received via
email from Dan Bakke.
MOSQUITO CONTROL: Put some
water in a white dinner
plate and add a couple of
drops of Lemon Fresh Joy
dish detergent. Set the
dish on your porch, patio or
other outdoor area. Not
sure what attracts them, but
mosquitoes flock to it, and
drop dead shortly after
drinking the mixture and
usually within 10 feet of
the plate. Dan says it
works. Happy Hunting!
