Don’t you get disgusted with complainers? Having said that, I am now going
to do my share of
complaining. You see I
have a problem and don’t
know quite how to deal
with it. Lately I am not
getting anything done at
home. The culprits that
are turning me in to a
lazy whiner are the spring
arrival of birds. Our
backyard is an
ever-changing bird
sanctuary. We have put out
10 containers of grape
jelly and orange halves
for the orioles. Today I
watched 27 Baltimore and
Orchard Orioles feeding at
one time. They are just
beautiful with their
bright orange plumage. The
Orchard Orioles are a
little smaller and darker
than the Baltimore
species. We also had
Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks
and Thrushes enjoying the
oranges. The orioles
arrived May 11th and the
hummingbirds came May
15th. I have spent all day
long at my kitchen window
watching these feathered
friends. Today there was a
“Red-Headed Woodpecker” in
our yard. Also had an
“Indigo Bunting” visit
around the finch feeders.
The other morning we even
had a Mourning Dove eating
the finch food. I know I
will stay busy keeping the
orange halves and grape
jelly containers full.
Thankfully we grow grapes
so I have lots of juice on
hand to make jelly. Okay,
enough about the
complaining.
AAAAAHHHHHH! Sweet
spring!!!! How I have
waited for this wonderful
season. The trees are
almost leafed out—just a
couple of more days. I
open windows and hear the
wonderful music of lawns
being mowed---yes; summer
is “just around the
corner”. According to my
thermometer we have had 70
plus degree temperatures a
couple of times. Today was
the LAST day of school in
Edinburg. I know it is a
wonderful time for the
graduating seniors. Such a
sense of “freedom”. They
are done with one phase of
their lives and ready to
embark on a new venture.
We wish them well on
whatever path they have
chosen. Graduation is this
Saturday. There are lots
of open houses to attend
following graduation to
honor these great kids.
I cannot end this edition
of the “Crow’s Nest”
without NOT adding my
congratulations to TJ Hall
and Katie Currie on their
engagement. Everyone is SO
happy for both of them.
Katie is such a sweetheart
and loved by all of us. We
have waited for this
moment. What an asset they
will be to the community.
TJ is already very
involved with Quick
Response and the Fire
Department. TJ has been
such a great help to me in
so many ways not only with
maintaining this website,
but also in many other
computer areas. Thanks
TJ!!! You are a very, very
special nephew.
Have enjoyed reading the
responses in our Guest
Book. Thank you for your
kind words.
Everyone, have a great
week and I will converse
with you later.
