THE CROW’S
NEST----------------April 5,
2010
I hope everyone had a
wonderful and blessed
Easter. The weather was
wonderful—sunny and bright.
The “Olson” family held
their annual afternoon of
kite flying on the church
parking lot. Allen Sorbo is
usually manning the kite,
but yesterday it was Jeremy
Johansen. It is fun to
watch as the kites fly in
the wind.
Springtime brings all kinds
of weather to the area. We
have had beautiful weather
and then some that is not so
beautiful. Last Friday it
started hailing here, but
that was nothing like the
stormy weather they had in
the Bismarck area. They had
about 8 inches of wet, wet
snow that brought road
closings and power lines to
fall. Today’s paper said a
big part of south central
Nodak is still without
power. I guess we can live
with a little hail!
There are signs of spring
all over. All one has to do
is to listen to the sound of
dirt bikes, motorcycles and
4-wheelers revving up their
engines and driving around
town. There is also the
smell of charcoal as
residents are outside on
their patios or decks
barbequing. We have enjoyed
the return of the robins.
It is so great to watch them
digging for worms in the
soil. For those of us that
live in this frozen tundra
during the winter months,
spring is a “BIG DEAL”. I
hope I speak for everyone
when I say it just makes us
“happy” to enjoy warmer
weather.
Spring has come very early
for us in the Edinburg
community. This last week
we have enjoyed temperatures
in the 60’s. Flooding is
always a concern with those
who live near rivers.
Fortunately flooding has not
been too bad this year. I
talked with a friend tonight
who had tried to cross over
at Oslo, MN and could not
because of high water.
About a week ago we spent
time in Minot with our
daughter and family. O, but
do they ever have the snow
out there!!! They have SO
much more to melt. We are
so far ahead of them as far
as snowmelt. It is a fun,
fun ride out to Minot from
Edinburg on Highway 17.
There is absolutely NO
traffic and we drive a
highway with lots of bumps
and such. It is worth every
mile of bad pavement. We go
by the town of Wolford where
recently many, many wind
turbines were placed. I
counted 88 turbines and then
lost count as they were all
over the hilly area. The
landscape is so wonderful
with many hills and
valleys. There is lots of
water also out in that part
of North Dakota. It is just
a wonderful area of the
state to drive through.
I went down to Grand Forks
this past week and lo and
behold, if there wasn’t a
combine out in the field
combining corn from last
year!!! Is that a sign of
spring or what!!!
It won’t be long before the
farmers will be out in their
fields spring planting. I
watch Bob Kertz drive by
many times a day so I know
he is getting machinery and
such ready. It is great to
see activity on the streets
of Edinburg. Pretty soon
all the golf carts will be
up and running.
I try not to make the
“Crow’s Nest” personal as I
know readers do not want to
read about my family. But,
please allow me this little
glimpse in to a very
personal happening. Our twin
sons, who are 41 years old
have very dear friends
they’ve known since high
school in Lansing, KS. Bill
and Ruth have been married a
little over 20 years and
they just gave birth to
their first child, a new
little baby girl last
Wednesday.
Congratulations Bill and
Ruth on your new daughter
Alexus Tegan.
Our sympathy goes to Rose
Denault and her family on
the death of her dad, Linden
(Bud) Tischman. He had been
living at the Good Samaritan
Center in Park River for the
past while. Rosie, you are
in our thoughts and prayers
as is Jessica, Jared,
Morgan, Alicia and Bruce.
I just heard that Maria
Peterson was burned last
Saturday while making
doughnuts. My
understanding is that hot
oil out of her deep fryer
spilled and she was burned
on her face, arm and torso.
She is in the hospital in
Park River with 2nd degree
burns. Our hearts and
our prayers go out to Maria
for a quick and easy
recovery.
Have a good day and we’ll
talk later.
