THE CROW’S NEST----------------MARCH 24, 2006

THE BAD NEWS IS:  I have a problem-----I am ALWAYS behind.  THE GOOD NEWS IS:  I have a solution.  I think that at the age of, uumm, 60 years or so, a day’s time frame should jump from 24 hours to 48 hours. This idea popped in my head when I realized our St Patrick’s Day Party was a week ago today and I still hadn’t found the time to post the pictures.  If there were 48 hours in a day I would only be 3 days late in getting the website updated.  Okay, I know I am whining about this when in actuality I should be writing about the humor of getting ready for this shindig.  Rosie Denault and I (with Chuck’s help) did all the preparations (food wise).  The humor lies in the fact that both Rosie and I suffer a lot from rheumatoid arthritis.  One of us is old.  We would peel carrots or do another task for a bit then have to stop to massage the hands and talk about our medications.  It took us quite a while to finish all the food.  We both did our share of complaining about the legs aching and the shoulders aching and O my, we’ll have to rethink doing this again.  Now, THAT WAS WHINING!!!

The fund-raiser for our streetlights was very successful.  We had a count of 57 around 2 PM last Friday.  We served 120!!!  Thank goodness I usually plan for a few extra.  We had Irish Stew and Tuna Tetrazzini.  There was lots of polka music.  Brandon Kartes never missed a dance.   I think everyone there had a good time.

The NCAA Western Regional Hockey Tournament starts tonight at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks.  Minnesota plays Holy Cross at 5:30 PM followed by UND VS Michigan.  “The Ralph” is sold out.  UND seems to be at their peak right now.  Hockey fans are excited.

Congratulations to Sara Sorbo once again.  She was named to the First Team- All State Basketball Team.  What a wonderful way to end a terrific high school basketball career.

We welcome Dave Ramsey to the Edinburg Farmers Elevator.  He is the new manager.  Dave grew up in the Park River area and now resides in Park River.  Larry Pewe is retiring after being at the elevator over 30 years.  Larry moved to Edinburg in 1963 as a newly wed.  He taught in the Edinburg School system for 12 ½ years.  Now Larry will have more time to go with Carol to the casinos and to Grand Forks to play bingo.  We also welcome Penny Venter to the elevator.  She is the new book-keeper.

Arnold Bjerke is starting a business in town.  When Cliff Hilde died, it left a void for all those people who brought Cliff their chainsaws, clippers, scissors and such for fixing or sharpening.  Arnold has the Stihl franchise so he is ready to meet those needs for people.

The winter weather has citizens visiting other parts of the country---and world to enjoy warmer climates.  Vera Brandvold is still over in Europe enjoying Rome.  TJ and Katie Hall are in Palm Desert and Loretta Monson just returned from Minneapolis.  Rose Denault has booked another flight to Germany.  My husband, Chuck and our 2 sons are in Tucson for a long weekend of golf.  Every adventure sounds like so much fun.  I dream about far away places as I sit at my sewing machine.

School activities are winding down.  The All State Music Festival is in Grand Forks this weekend and the Adams, Edmore, Edinburg prom is April 1.  Hope the weather will cooperate!  Have a great day and will visit with everyone later.

MARCH 24, 2006

Things to Think About:

What was the best thing before sliced bread?

How is it possible to have a civil war?

Can an atheist get insurance against acts of God?

Why is there an expiration date on sour cream?

If you ate both pasta and antipasta, would you still be hungry?
