THE CROW’S
NEST-----------FEBRUARY
14, 2006
Mother
Nature has her special way
of making sure we
Edinburger’s do not become
too smug. The whole month
of January we basked in a
tropical climate making sure
everyone from a distance
heard about our gorgeous
weather. Well, the weather
is still gorgeous but in
another way! We now have
huge drifts of pristine,
white snow lining the
streets of Edinburg. Snow
is piled high on street
corners to accommodate
traffic flow in town. It is
beautiful to look at through
my living room window. I
stay inside because our
temperatures have dropped
also. The high tomorrow
according to Too Tall Tom,
one of our local weathermen,
should be zero with wind
chill factors of 20 plus
below!
With these temperatures it
is no wonder residents are
ready to do some traveling.
Lana and “Doc” Larson just
left for Cancun. Lana and
Ron Langerud’s son, Darin is
getting married in Mexico.
What a beautiful setting.
Vera Brandvold and her
sister, Verna Severson are
going back to Europe-this
time to Rome, Florence and
Venice and Ruth and Greg
Hall plan to spend some
leisure time in California.
David and Loretta Monson
just got back from San Diego
with a “grand-baby” stop in
Carson City, NV and Debbi
and Sammy Johnson just
returned from Las Vegas
where their daughter,
Shannan was married. We had
thought for half a second
about going to Seoul, Korea
this month but decided
against it. Our nephew is
on the US Juniors Curling
Team. He plays for Team
Minnesota who recently won
the US title so now they go
to the World Championships
in Korea. We wish Matt and
his team mates the best.
Matt is a junior at
Princeton so he has to keep
up with studies while
curling for the world
championship.
I am sorry to report Lynette
Langerud fell and broken her
knee cap. She had surgery
and is at home
recuperating. Lynette, we
wish you a swift recovery.
It was about a year ago that
her husband Bud was on
crutches after a fall on the
ice. Winter can be
treacherous.
Our sincere sympathy to the
family of Ed Moe. Ed passed
away about 10 days ago. I
used to sit on the election
board with Ed. He was the
only man among 4 women. We
had such a fun time
pampering Ed every Election
Day. Also, deepest
sympathy to Marji Jonasson
and her family on the death
of her father, Earl Gaarder.
My dad and Earl worked side
by side for years with the
Walsh County Fair
Association. I remember
vividly being pregnant with
my daughter, Kris (forty
years ago) and close to my
due date. Chuck was in Viet
Nam so dad was the
designated person in charge
of me. He made me go to the
Fair every day and both Earl
and dad hovered over me
making sure I wasn’t going
in to labor. These are fond
memories of 3 wonderful
gentlemen.
Lyle and Gail Gestson are
home visiting. Gail’s mom,
Olga Rheaume had surgery so
they are here to be with
her. We always enjoy having
them visit us in Edinburg.
Food is on the minds of
many of us. The new Trinity
Lutheran 125th
Anniversary cookbooks just
arrived from the printer, so
everyone is busy thumbing
through each page anxious to
try each delicious entry.
Our Business Club is also
busily planning a St
Patrick’s Day Dinner and
Dance for March 17th.
This will be a fund raiser
for new, decorative
streetlights for Main
Street. We are going to
serve Irish Stew with all
the trimmings and then wear
the calories off by dancing
to Polka music. It should
be a fun evening.
Last but not least, our
dear friend, Wanda Hall has
moved to Morehead. She is
enjoying living in a
retirement community. She
gets therapy for her legs
and tells us she really is
having a great time. She
says she stays so busy and
enjoys all the people
Happy Valentines Day and
we’ll visit again soon. O
yes, Carol Pewe: Isn’t it
great that we can now draw
Social Security????
